Awrad-e-Fateha

Composed by Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (Shah-i-Hamadan, d. 786 AH), founder of the Kubrawiyya order in Kashmir. Recited after Fajr and Isha at Khanqah-i-Mualla, Srinagar. The full recitation takes approximately 30 minutes. The 81-page booklet is preserved at Khanqah-i-Mualla, Srinagar.

١. Opening: Bismillah
Quran 1:1
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Begin the Awrad by reciting Bismillah three times.
٢. Istighfar (Seeking Forgiveness)
3× or moreSunan Abu Dawud 1517
I seek forgiveness from Allah the Almighty, besides Whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, and I repent to Him.
Repeated multiple times as the opening act of repentance.
٣. Dua as-Salam (Prayer of Peace)
Sahih Muslim 591
Allahumma antas-Salam wa minkas-Salam wa ilayka ya'udus-Salam, tabarakta ya dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram
O Allah, You are Peace, from You comes peace, and to You peace returns. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour.
Recited as an opening supplication at the beginning of the Awrad.
٤. Tahmeed (Opening Praise)
Awrad-i-Fateha, Shah Hamadan
O Allah, all praise belongs to You as befits the majesty of Your Face and the greatness of Your authority. O Allah, all praise belongs to You, abundant, pure, blessed praise, as our Lord loves and is pleased with.
Extended praise of Allah that opens the Awrad proper.
٥. A'udhu + Ayat al-Kursi
Quran 2:255
A'udhu billahi min ash-Shaytanir-Rajim. Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi'idhnih. Wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya'uduhu hifzuhuma. Wa Huwal-'Aliyyul-'Azim.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
Ayat al-Kursi is the centrepiece of the Awrad. Recited after the Ta'awwudh.
٦. Amanar-Rasul (Last Two Verses of Al-Baqarah)
Quran 2:285-286
Amanar-rasulu bima unzila ilayhi mir-rabbihi wal-mu'minun. Wa'fu anna, waghfir lana, warhamna, anta mawlana fansurna alal-qawmil-kafirin.
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, saying: "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say: "We hear and we obey. Grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination." Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. For it is what it has earned, and against it is what it has brought upon itself. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make an error. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him." (Sahih Bukhari 5010). These verses are a standard part of the Awrad recited after Ayat al-Kursi.
٧. Tasbeeh (Glorification)
33 × 33 × 33Sahih Muslim 595
SubhanAllah × 33 Alhamdulillah × 33 Allahu Akbar × 33
Glory be to Allah (33 times) All praise is for Allah (33 times) Allah is the Greatest (33 times)
The classic post-prayer tasbeeh recited as part of the Awrad.
٨. Tahleel (Declaration of Oneness)
MultipleAwrad-i-Fateha
There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and all praise. He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things.

La uhsi thana'an alayka, anta kama athnayta ala nafsik.
I cannot enumerate Your praises. You are as You have praised Yourself. O Allah, we ask You for Your pleasure and Paradise, and we seek refuge in You from Your anger and the Fire. O Allah, we ask You for the good of this day and the good of what is in it and the good of what comes after it. And we seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what is in it and the evil of what comes after it.
"La uhsi thana'an alayk" is from the Prophet's ﷺ own du'a, recorded in Sahih Muslim. He would pray it and say he cannot praise Allah as Allah deserves.

In all the worlds, You are indeed Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.

Closing: Surah Al-Fatiha
Quran 1:1-7
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-'alamin. Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim. Maliki yawmid-din. Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in. Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqim. Siratal-ladhina an'amta 'alayhim ghayril-maghdubi 'alayhim wa lad-dallin.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is for Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path - the path of those You have blessed, not of those who have earned anger, nor of those who are astray.
The Awrad closes with Surah al-Fatiha recited three times. This is why the booklet is called "Aurad-e-Fateha" (the litanies of the Opening). Its recitation completes the circle: the Awrad opens with Bismillah from Fatiha and closes with Fatiha itself. Recite three times and blow gently.
All references are to authenticated narrations from the books of hadith. Where a source is listed as Quran, the text is from the Mushaf directly. The Awrad-e-Fateha is sourced from the published booklet of Khanqah-i-Mualla, Kashmir.
